What I like so much about this Caitlin Moran piece is how it’s a mix of so many diffent elements of music journalism - there’s something for everyone! It’s kind of a rockwrite buffet: I’m-with the band tale-telling; interesting theorising; a Smash Hits-y sense of absurdity; framing the piece in the journalist’s personal response but also with a fannish sympathy and curiosity that characterises a lot of good music writing at the moment. Excellent stuff.
Caitlin Moran has, over the past couple of years, become the most essential read in the Times. Her ‘Celebrity Watch’ column on a Friday is always pant-wettingly funny, and now the paper has given her a weekly column in the Saturday magazine too. This excellent interview with Gaga just shows what high esteem she is now held in by her editors.
