They don’t write ‘em like this any more! OR SO I THOUGHT.
“I’ve just been to a record shop and bought 21 CDs,” declares The Vaccines singer Justin Young down the phone from Aberdeen, where they have been on tour.
He is trying to dispel the suggestion, raised by their raucously infectious 84-second debut single Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra), that they are obsessed with The Ramones.

This is easily in my top 5 Belle & Sebastian songs, and this performance really brings out the song’s latent dusty C&W vibe, which is equally as potent as the strummy Greenwich Village original. And I love when Stuart instinctively, and gamely, mimes a pitcher’s motion on the “affects his speed” line (Stuart would not make an effective...

What I like so much about this Caitlin Moran piece is how it’s a mix of so many diffent elements of music journalism - there’s something for everyone! It’s kind of a rockwrite buffet: I’m-with the band tale-telling; interesting theorising; a Smash Hits-y sense of absurdity; framing the piece in the journalist’s personal response but also with a fannish sympathy and curiosity that...

1. Pick an artist.
2. Pick an act in the “Similar Artists” suggestions.
3. Do the same for their “Similar Artists”. (Not picking an artist you’ve picked before, if possible)
4. Repeat until you have a list of 10 artists. See how far away you can end up.
For instance:
Coldplay -> Radiohead…
I got Motley Crue -> Guns N’Roses -> Aerosmith -> Bon Jovi -> Bryan Adams...

45. I’ve never felt older.
I’m torn on this. On the one hand, “generations” are the analysis equivalent of horoscopes and if I never see the word “millenial” again I’d be very happy. On the other hand, I’m delighted to see a research firm actually turn its findings into something engaging people can do as this has been a hobby horse of mine for a while.

Italy's Serie A to copy Premiership and break away →
This is more bad news for club football. Serie B clubs are in as much financial danger as our League One and League Two clubs - possibly more so when you consider some of the attendances. The global clubs (the Premiership big 4, the Spanish two etc) are sucking all of the money out of lower league football.
So here’s a suggestion… this Saturday it’s the last weekend of the...
A salary cap for the Premiership? →
I disagree with the comment that it wouldn’t work if it wasn’t introduced simultaneously across Europe. Right now, the English clubs are dominant. Premiership clubs have plenty of turnover and a cap linked to that would be a wise move. The English clubs would still be able to attract the best players and would still be considered a threat in European competition.

Aaron Curry, tipped to be one of the first college players picked in this weekend’s NFL Draft (where the Top 5 players picked can earn upwards of $30m contracts) talks about his marriage proposal, his pre-draft visits to teams, his plans for draft day itself, and why he’s taking one young leukaemia sufferer to New York with him.
He seems like a wise head on young shoulders....

I saw Amanda perform in London about 18 months ago and thought she was amazing. Can’t believe it’s taken this long for her to release a single. It’s a good ‘un though.
